Oneshot - The Rabbit Boss' Bakery

[1]

The rabbit poked its head out of the bushes, flicked its ears, and sniffed carefully. The overbearing scent that belonged to a predator emanating from the cave nearly made him fall backwards.

……Did it seem a bit lighter than yesterday?

It seemed that Mr. Leopard didn't come home to sleep last night.

The rabbit looked at the large stacked stones that blocked the cave. Tentatively he stuck out his paw. He walked carefully on the tips of his paws, his long floppy ears falling on his head, not even daring to take a deep breath. He put the thing in his arms by the cave entrance. He turned slightly, jumped into the grass and ran off. His long ears sticking out happily.

Shortly after he left, the cave door slowly opened.

It was another delicious red fruit cake today.

Mr. Leopard got up and looked into the little straw basket. He nodded with satisfaction.

After eating the berry pie, he pondered how to make its smell less frightening…to rabbits.

[2]

The rabbit had a bakery on Cuiwei Mountain. The store was small, but it had many regular customers. Even the Mountain God frequented it. The rabbit thought hard and put effort into his cakes. Eight Treasure Cake had eight kinds of fruit. Crisp Ingot turned into bite-sized ingots. The big and small demons of Cuiwei Mountain liked to do business with the gentle, shy, and delicious (?) chief rabbit.

A lot of fresh fruit was required to make cakes. The chief rabbit jumped and jumped with a basket bigger than him every day before dawn. As the last drop of morning dew slowly evaporated in the sun, he jumped up and jumped back with a completely full basket. Selecting ingredients, kneading dough, making cakes, serving customers... The rabbit was busy every day.

Among all the fruits, the special small red fruit from Cuiwei Mountain was the most difficult to pick. This fruit grew all year round, but the trees grew along the cliff. The trunks were tall and straight and difficult to climb. There were often poisonous snakes under the trees. Although the rabbit could change into human form, courage did not grow with the transformation.

The rabbit met Mr. Leopard when he was picking berries. Mr. Leopard, who could climb trees and had claws, walked gracefully and easily on branches. He easily placed in his mouth the fruits that the rabbit had been eagerly trying to obtain for half a day. The rabbit lowered its head dejectedly. A pair of white ears fell. Her ruby-red eyes turned redder.

Leopard. Didn't leopards eat meat? Why did the leopard eat fruit? The rabbit clearly saw it first. wow......

The leopard chewing on the red fruit suddenly lowered its head. He looked in a certain direction under the tree. A dumpling was nestled in the deep grass. It was white, smooth, and faintly smelled of a fresh spiritual aura… It was an animal that gained spiritual awareness. I couldn't eat it no matter how good it smelled. Mr. Leopard felt a sense of loss.

"Do you want to eat fruit?"

The rabbit's ears twitched in shock. Then he shook his head like a rattle. "I want to make red fruit cake."

"Red fruit cake? Does it taste good?"

The rabbit nodded vigorously. "It's good. It's good. It tastes better than the fruits. It's sour, sweet and soft......"

Did it really taste that good? Mr. Leopard's tail flicked and he pulled at a bright, scarlet fruit. Gently launched. The fruit landed on the rabbit's head in the grass.

huh - ? Red berries fell from the sky!

"You still love him?" Mr. Leopard threw more fruit bunches. He looked at the silly rabbit looking around and felt that the little one was very interesting.

The rabbit changed into human form and carried a handful of fruit. He jumped up and forced himself to gesture with his chin. "That's enough. That's enough. That's really good, Mr. Leopard."

The young rabbit jumped away. A pair of long ears bounced up and down with him. Mr. Leopard touched his chin somewhat remorsefully at the tree. Was it really that good?

However, the next morning, Mr. Leopard found a small cloth-covered basket outside his house. The interior was filled with carefully arranged red fruit cakes.

[3]

They didn't know when it started, but the rabbit boss of Cuiwei Mountain and Mr. Leopard had a secret agreement. If the basket wasn't full of hawthorn cakes one day in front of Mr. Leopard's house, that meant the rabbit boss's inventory of soft berries had run out and needed to be replenished.

Spring passed, autumn passed, summer passed, and winter harvest time arrived. A year passed quickly. The new residents moved into Cuiwei Mountain: Mr. Giraffe, seemingly friendly and good-natured, and Mr. Pigeon, lively and talkative. The two residents brought a little change to Cuiwei Mountain. They operated an express delivery business. It was a comprehensive service from pick up to delivery.

The thoughtful and convenient courier service was warmly supported by the residents of Cuiwei Mountain. The rabbit boss became busier and busier. He didn't have fewer customers, but he did have more takeout orders. The frantically busy rabbit had no time to make special cakes for Mr. Leopard. He simply had Mr. Giraffe and Mr. Pigeon's long-distance delivery service send baskets to Mr. Leopard every day.

As a special treatment for long-term cooperation, when Mr. Giraffe came every morning to pick up the items, he would bring a basket of fresh berries for the rabbit boss. That was because Mr. Giraffe and Mr. Dove's house had a lot of red berries growing. Chief Rabbit's new associates also liked the berry pies.

Mr. Leopard soon found out what was wrong. The daily cake was red fruit cake. The jumping and hopping rabbit hadn't appeared for a long time. The strange smell made Mr. Leopard walk in circles in the cave. Why didn't he come looking for me to pick berries?

Mr. Leopard then ran towards the grove of red berries. He also found the origin of the strange smell in the baskets. So he had another guy help him pick berries. Mr. Leopard thought tartly: No wonder the recent berry pies tasted worse and worse!

Mr. Leopard wagged his tail and sadly went home. The next day, Mr. Giraffe came to deliver another basket. To his surprise, he discovered that the basket from yesterday was in its original place. It hadn't been touched at all.

[4]

It seemed that Mr. Leopard suddenly disappeared.
Mr. Leopard didn't get the red fruit cakes either.

The busy rabbit boss was very worried. When he tried new cakes, he tasted an inexplicable bitterness. How could this be? The Mooncake Festival was almost here. Mooncakes that should symbolize reunion shouldn't be bitter.

The worried rabbit boss accidentally got sick. He coughed and had a sore throat at home. He was only able to close his bakery for a few days to rest.

Once the rabbit boss stopped doing business, the entire Cuiwei Mountain had no cakes to eat. The news spread from the foot of the mountain to the temple on the top of the mountain and reached Mr. Leopard's ears. Mr. Leopard frowned. Sick?

The next day, the chief rabbit, who was coughing nonstop, rubbed his red nose and found a very familiar little cloth-covered basket in front of his house. Half of the basket contained berries and the other half was licorice root.

The head of the rabbits picked a red fruit to eat it was bitter Then he took a licorice root to chew it. It was sweet.

The rabbit chief smiled happily.

[5]

The rabbit soon recovered. It jumped and jumped and opened its doors again. Introduced a new mooncake: the sweet and sour red fruit mooncake.

The acidity was the taste of nostalgia. The sweetness was the taste of coming home.

Hawthorn Mooncakes received praise as soon as they hit the shelves. They sold out very quickly before the Mooncake Festival. The big and small devils happily brought the mooncakes home to celebrate the reunion festival.

As a local rabbit from Cuiwei Mountain, the rabbit chief had nowhere to go. He was exhausted and looked up at the round moon above him. I was ready to take a good break.

However, before that, there was still a moon cake that hadn't been shipped...

Mr. Giraffe and Mr. Dove were on vacation. The rabbit could only deliver it himself. The rabbit bounced and jumped and came to the familiar cave....... Huh? Why was the door opened today?

Mr. Leopard slowly walked out of the cave. He pointed with his chin. "Is that for me?"

His expression seemed a bit dangerous. All the rabbit's fur stood on end. He timidly nodded.

"What is the padding?"

"Haw, berry stuffing!"

Hey. It had been so long. It definitely wouldn't be done with its red berries. Mr. Leopard raised his head. His voice was hard. "Don't eat. I'm tired of it!"

"So... So what stuffing do you want to eat?" The rabbit asked quietly. He struggled to curl into a ball.

Mr. Leopard began to get angry upon seeing his fearful appearance. He simply flicked his tail and turned into a human. The tall, strong young man leaned down and smirked at the small ball on the ground, revealing snow-white teeth. "......Become human and I'll tell you."

It was the holidays. Of course I was going to eat meat!

And the best, of course, was the rabbit stuffing... Hehehe.

A few days later, the demons who went to visit their relatives returned to Cuiwei Mountain. They soon made a discovery. The rabbit boss's bakery had a new employee and it was a majestic looking leopard?

Looking at his appearance, why does he look a bit like the leader of the leopard who is known for his ferocity under the Lord Mountain God...?

The rabbit, who was curled up in a ball, was yawning in front of the oven. He spread his paws to rub his nose. The whole rabbit was a little sleepy. The tall, strong clerk suddenly slipped into the kitchen. He picked up the soft rabbit ball and took a bite. It was fragrant and very sweet.

The End.
